The 2024 OCA-NJ Chapter Scholarship Applications are now closed!

OCA New Jersey Chapter is pleased to announce our Scholarship Program for 2024. We continue to offer 2 different scholarship programs. The first is our traditional Essay Scholarship Award featuring 6 named scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $500, and the second is a creative artistic endeavor dedicated to the Spirit of Corky Lee in the amount of $1,500. The application and letter of recommendation requirement is the same for both awards; however, the submission and judging criteria is different.
Please note that these scholarships are available to all college bound high school seniors of Asian American descent who are full time residents of the state of New Jersey. We encourage all eligible students to apply, especially those with greatest financial need. Parental consent, a letter of recommendation, and an official copy of high school transcripts is required. Deadline to apply is April 21, 2024.

New York City's 2nd Annual AAPI Cultural & Heritage Parade ~ May 21, 2023

What a great turn out for this 2nd annual event in celebration of May's AAPI Heritage month in NYC! From the OCA 4-Chapters contingents, we had as our main attraction, a brand new dragon decorated in a patriotic theme of Red, White & Blue. This beautiful brand new dragon is courtesy of our very own OCA-New Jersey Chapter president, Henry Lee, who is also the owner of Dragon Lion Gear Company.  A big THANK YOU to the 2023 volunteer dragon dance troupe & the volunteers/participants from OCA-New Jersey, OCA-New York & OCA-Westchester Hudson Valley (OCA-Long Island had to opt out this year due to a special circumstance, but will catch them next year)!  Thanks to the 4 OCA Chapters Parade Committee who worked very hard on the many planning meetings & coordinations to make this parade come to fruition. Photos of the May 21, 2023 parade in the YouTube slideshow below were provided by John K. Tan/Eric Chau (OCA-NJ) & William Kaung/Daniel Lewis (OCA-WHV).

NJ Earthquake Relief Fund to Help Victims of Turkey-Syria Earthquake

OCA-NJ Board President Henry Lee, Vice President Eric Chau & Treasurer Jenny Lee stopped by Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh's office on March 1, 2023 to present a $500.00 donation check from our chapter to the NJ Earthquake Relief Fund where 100% of all donations will benefit victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquake!
Mayor Sayegh worked with many local leaders & organizations to promote & coordinate relief efforts to help the earthquake victims in the past 2 months since the earthquake happened. Here are just some recent articles on his efforts: NJCDC NJ.com Tap Into Paterson

COVID-19 Community Relief Effort Updates

We hope our members & friends are staying safe & well amid the challenging times we are all facing due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Earlier this month, we set up a COVID-19 Community Relief Donation Drive. Monies raised go toward purchases of needed items to be donated to the brave frontline heroes in our community. Click HERE to see a letter from our chapter president, Laura Lee.

Thank you to our chapter's members & friends who have generously donated to this cause! We are truly grateful for your support & generosity! So far, our COVID-19 Community Relief Effort committee has made drop-offs to 4 hospitals in some of the hardest hit areas in NJ.

We are continuing to work on finding hospitals to donate needed items to & expanding to include "Food Pantries" & "Senior Homes" in our area that are impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Please donate to this effort if you haven't already done so. If you would like to mail in your donation, please make checks payable to: OCA-NJ Chapter
Mail to: OCA-NJ Chapter, COVID-19 Community Relief Effort, 2 Heather Court, Dover, NJ 07801.
