OCA-NJ CHAPTER ANNOUNCES ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP & INTERNSHIP AWARDEES

Wayne, NJ, June 9, 2013 – OCA-NJ Chapter announces the recipients of their yearly Essay Contest.

 

The following candidates for awards were announced as: 

Robert E. Wone recipient: 

Christina Xiao, Tenafly HS, attending Babson College in the Fall

OCA-NJ Scholarship – 1st Runner Up: 

Mei Ming Cornue-Hollander, Montclair HS, attending Brandeis University

2nd Runner Up: 

Wesley Ren, West Windsor Plainsboro HS North, attending NYU

Honorable Mentions:

OCA-New Jersey Chapter is a state chapter of OCA, a section 501(c)(3) national organization dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. Our goals are: (1) To advocate for social justice, equal opportunity and fair treatment. (2) To promote civic participation, education and leadership. (3) To advance coalitions and community building. (4) To foster cultural heritage.

OCA is engaged in organizing its 81 chapters and college affiliates across the nation to develop both leadership and community involvement. OCA chapters and our organizational and college affiliates are establishing strong local programs in all parts of the country. OCA’s base in Washington, D.C. gives the national office an effective vantage point for monitoring legislation and policy issues affecting Asian Pacific Americans. The New JerseyChapter of OCA has an active membership with great opportunities to grow as the Asian American population increases.

Founded in 1973 as the Organization of Chinese Americans, OCA maintains its headquarters in Washington, D.C.
